Everything is Coming up Roses

What gorgeous  weather we have had in the hills for our first spring here,  and full of surprises as roses and trees open that are new to us.
I have had a mission for the coming weeks to find vintage glass Christmas baubles and my first find is some mid century mercury glass which were made in Russia

Remember the mirror that was a present from my Mum . It was hard to see in the pic I took in the shop, but it was a very pale French gray. I love the colour but after living with it for a few weeks I decided to repaint it white

Before in pale gray

After~ up on the wall in white

( Yes I'm embarrassed to say that is a big screen TV on the wall )

All our roses have opened included masses of white bush roses,  tiny pink roses on the fences and the golden elm in it's full glory

(the new chicken run in the left corner, and veg garden with bird netting

The conifer next to the flag pole is coming out shortly ~ a huge job

A standard "Seafoam" in the driveway

We bought home lots of David Austin roes to plant including my favourites "Sharifa Asma" and "Heritage" ...the fragrance is out of this world. Also some huge heavy enormous pots to withstand the winds we got in September

Love this 2013 book I found at the library

Country Town Treasures

A lovely day was spent driving around the Barossa Valley and stopping off at little shops and fossicking around for treasures ( and of course lunch at a country pub....bread and butter pudding with caramel sauce, cream and icecream   (DECADENT AND DIVINE)
We found this in a back room in a pile of old household pieces (wish we could of bought more)
There is 2 fruit dipping baskets, an old bucket and enamel bowl...all to be used for plants and herbs in the garden

Another vintage book for my collection
A vintage 1930's ring box...lovely condition inside
Our 6 chicks are 6 weeks old and it now seems 2 are roosters and we will have to find a new home for them...you can see the difference in size in this picture
The garden is in full spring mode and roses new to us are opening these are "Pinkie"
"Apricot Delight"
We tested the automatic watering system at sunset and took an interesting shot!
I found an Australian White Ibis wandering around in the garden ... good grief!
Baby apples

A Halloween Birthday

I was very lucky with beautiful weather for my birthday this year....it was a gorgeous Spring day
Besides the mirror I told you about last week Mum bought me an antique pair of mother of pearl opera glasses (c 1900) and a padded linen bed head for my bedroom

My darling hubs gave me an eternity ring and a special surprise a gorgeous Edwardian gold bracelet with peridots .I especially love the heart padlock engraved with 2 sets of initials. It came in an old antique box

From a dear friend  a pair of vintage books

After a great lunch in a historic country mill it was on to a my favourite country town...Strathalbyn and the little shop I found a few weeks ago that has a gorgeous mix of vintage things with insane prices - half of charity shops in Adelaide

I picked up these for a tiny amount of money

Love these 3 19th century books-all with interesting inscriptions

A vintage tablecloth and napkins

I have been searching  a replacement middle size 1973 Spring Blossom Pyrex bowl and this was only $3

If only Rummage wasn't so far away I would be there every day!

In the garden this week ...our 6 little hatchlings are a month old and been moved to the big girls house ( we don't know yet which are the boys which we won't be keeping)

All our roses and clematis are opening

The fields over the back fence are been mown by the farmer changing the colours of the landscape

And the early morning mist hangs low at dawn
