This Week

A couple of months ago I shared my excitement at finding books randomly from a shop from the library of a historic homestead we had only just visited the week before! here

I haven't been able to go back to the shop until this week and I was thrilled to find the last two books still in a corner

My fave is the Sir Walter Scott ,and like the others I bought it, came out from England with the family. It has beautiful leather tooling and remnants of gilt on it's spine
The other book would have been bought here contemporary with the " Anlaby Station"

I found lots of bits and pieces inside the book

I found this small mannequin which is covered in a layer of lace

drying the last of the hydrangeas

 last of the summer roses

fire ravaged forest in the background

watering the front garden at sunrise

 a glut of plums

waiting for nectarines to ripen

stealing carrot tops

Washing and Digging

I love this pair of salad servers from a charity shop

I am starting to launder and press my collection of antique white linens ,which hasn't been done for a while. It's a bit overwhelming and a big job as I have mountains of them (sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths, tray clothes, baby clothes, doilies),but summer is the best time and gives me a chance to enjoy them again

the  32 km  narrow winding road to our town has taken a week to reopen  after the fires and it is devastating to drive down it. This pic was published by the paper during the Tour Down Under Race and the only colour is the riders...everything is ashes...I cried the first sight of it

In the garden this week (our own oasis)

It is incredible how green everything is after running the sprinkles for 24 hours during the fires

we harvested all our potatoes and  baby carrots and the tomato are fabulous this year

relaxing in the vegetable garden !

A New Week

How nice to get a couple of parcels in the
post this week, just what I needed to cheer myself up!

I got another antique book for my slowly growing collection...1711 and it had a bonus french religious medal on it!

30 art deco christmas cards in their envelopes from 1930. I'm going to make a garland of them for next Christmas

A couple of finds in country shops...a sweet pink and gilt book for 20c...just right to use for putting vases on

antique shoe stretchers from Fortnum and Mason

I could take dozens of pics of the  bushfire devastation as we drove around...completely surrounding the town is black and the main road to the city is still blocked....but I don't want to,I just want to shut it out .. so just pics from my back porch. The green forest beyond is burnt

before and after

The first thing I did after coming home from evacuating is pick a bowl of roses from my garden which could have been lost to us

the garden and lawn are very green as we left sprinklers and hoses running everywhere when we evacuated

naughty girls in the vegetable garden

stepping out

 in the orchard
