A New Week

How nice to get a couple of parcels in the
post this week, just what I needed to cheer myself up!

I got another antique book for my slowly growing collection...1711 and it had a bonus french religious medal on it!

30 art deco christmas cards in their envelopes from 1930. I'm going to make a garland of them for next Christmas

A couple of finds in country shops...a sweet pink and gilt book for 20c...just right to use for putting vases on

antique shoe stretchers from Fortnum and Mason

I could take dozens of pics of the  bushfire devastation as we drove around...completely surrounding the town is black and the main road to the city is still blocked....but I don't want to,I just want to shut it out .. so just pics from my back porch. The green forest beyond is burnt

before and after

The first thing I did after coming home from evacuating is pick a bowl of roses from my garden which could have been lost to us

the garden and lawn are very green as we left sprinklers and hoses running everywhere when we evacuated

  1. Hello Meg. Happy Blogging New Year and I am so glad you are all safe there. I've been following you for a while, and I'm making 2015 my big blogging year. Today I'm launching the Premiere` of my Five Star Frugal Link Up, and I'd be honoured if you would join me in sharing elegant ways to live on a shoestring budget. I think you are a perfect candidate. Love,

  2. Such pretty pretty pictures. I'm so glad that most things are okay. We were evacuated for wild fires around here last year. I still find bits of ash around.

  3. I am so glad to see you are all okay, including the naughty girls in your garden. Your roses look wonderful and I almost envy your great antique book collection. I´m also collecting old books, especially gardening books.

  4. So pleased all is well with you Meg. Gorgeous photos and I don't blame you for wanting to block it all out and not photograph the bad bits. Look at those vintage cards! and your garden looks a treat too. enjoy. cheers Wendy

  5. Happy for you! You have a lovely place! Nice roses!

  6. I am so glad that you are home and settling back in and focusing on the good! Picking roses is a great way to surround yourself with joy! All the best to you friend!!! Nicole xoxo

  7. Such a dramatic start to 2015 for you. I hope the rest of the year is calmer and full of plenty more vintage treasures. x

  8. I'm so happy that you have some joy in your life when there is devastation surrounding you, two parcels in the mail with things you treasure, an excellent way to lift one's spirits. The roses are lovely, I'm sure they smell beautiful too. Thinking of you,
    Anne xx

  9. It is so nice to receive those fun packages in the mail. Have a great week.

  10. Oh my goodness, yall did have quite the trauma didn't you. so glad to hear everything turned out fine
with your home, but know it has to be hard watching others that were not so blessed.
Your yard is beautiful, and your chicken are so pretty, and those roses in the bowl are exquisite and
would cheer anyone up. Hope things green up very quickly........and that all the fires are out........

    Blessings, Nellie

  11. What treasures! I love that little pink book. Hi, girls! Hi, kittie! Hi, Meg! It's wonderful to see the fruit in the orchard. It looks like you have quite an abundance.

  12. I'll be interested to see what you do with the old cards as I have a pile too. Of course I do! Seeing as we were separated at birth... Loving your books. What a delightful display they make.
Nice to see you focus on the positives. It can't be easy. xxx

  13. What a beautiful collection of Antique books. They are just breathtaking. I love their worn look. But I am tickled with those pretty chicks. They are too cute.

    Have a great week,

  14. Your vintage cards are going to make a beautiful garland. It must be so difficult to see all the devastation in your view every day. Happy you're back home safe.

  15. Meg, loved seeing pictures of your flowers, chickens, and cat! It will be spring soon!

  16. what lovely pictures...the cards. They will make a wonderful garland. And the pink book is so pretty. I am sorry about your fire troubles.. but am so glad you and your pretty place are safe. I understand. I live in the mountains of Az and a couple years back we were evacuated because of the Wallow Fire. I'm sure it's nice to see your little friends running about and safe. I'm visiting from Thoughts with Alice.
    Blessings, Tamara

  17. Chickens are perfect for an orchard! There is always fruit spoiling on the ground and chickens recycle it into the best fertilizer! Thank you for joining Home Sweet Home!
