Last Week of Summer

We took a trip up north for a picnic and in a tiny country town shop I found this large old hat tin....very cheap

A collection of  tiny French corsage pieces used by a milliner around 1900 (couldn't resist)

A homemade whole orange cake ready to be packed for the picnic... huge op shop picnic basket $2

We harvested our potatoes from the veg garden....the drought has reduced our crop by half this year

The Sedum is covered in bees and butterflies

A foggy dawn

Still battling to save our Golden Elm from elm beetle ...we have put sticky tape around the trunk poison in the ground and a fence around to keep the girls away...and will soon inject the trunk

    1. Yes back in 2013/14 I did post a lot of veg garden pictures but 15/16 we are in a drought and need the water to just keep the trees and lawns and shrubs alive . We don't know when it's going to end xx

  3. Seemed strange when I read the last week of summer. Here in France I'm longing for Sunmmer. Spring is here one day and gone the next. We haven't really had what I call a proper winter. So much rain and very few cold frosty days. So nice to see your basket ready for your picnic. I can see that vintage hat box used in so many ways, with plant pot full of pretty flowers in the summer, or winter by a fire place full of fir cones, love it. Those roses are so pretty, do they bloom for a long time, I'm looking for some ones for a rose bed we are hoping to make when it stops raining.. Enjoy your weekend

Love the hat tin what a great find and your flowers are gorgeous I wanted to say roses but they look like something else to me and cant for the life of me think of it right now but 50's ladies used to have them in their wedding bouquets. Enjoy the start of Autumn and fingers crossed you can save your elm you are certainly doing everything you can, dee

  9. We are fighting a losing battle in our neighborhood against pine beetles. It is heartbreaking to see how many pines have been removed. Good luck with your elm. The girls as usual made my day. Love the tin hat box.
