First Anniverary of a Country Move

This week marks one year since we moved from the city to a small country town, and it's been a big adjustment for me personally, mostly I love it but sometimes not so much!
Mr VL bought me a present this week from a second hand shop .It's a very pretty shape. I'm going to live with a while to see whether I want to repaint it

For the princely sum of $2 I found a pair of petty blue gingham lampshades and a vintage hand embroidered tray cloth in the local charity shop

I love this Royal Staffordshire Burslem flow ware bowl which was out on a half price table because of a chip. The pattern is called Jenny Lind

We inherited a lousy oven from the previous owners and at last we installed a new wall oven

And we removed the old ugly wall fan and replaced it with a fan which is a large light with clear blades which retract when not in use

 In the garden this week

Freezing frosts

A few bright spots in the garden

Making preserved lemons from our overloaded tree

  1. You will love country living once you get use to it!!

  2. Big changes to where we live take awhile to adjust to, especially if you've been a city girl and move to the country. For me it was the opposite. Growing up on a farm of over a 1000 acres in Western Australia and being able to see for miles and then moving to inner city Melbourne. But that was years ago and now I'm in the Dandenong Ranges surrounded by trees which I love but would so like to see the horizon and the sunrise and sunset. It sounds like you are doing the very best you can to adjust to your new life, it takes courage and you've been getting on with your life and continue to enjoy all things vintage. Speaking of which, your new chair is gorgeous, (very thoughtful husband) and your other finds are beautiful too. Enjoy your weekend.

  3. Mr VL did well in his gift selection.
The photo of the chooks on the verandah made me smile. Ours like to sit on the deck rather than scratch on the grass sometimes too.

  9. That chair is stunning!!!! What a great piece! And are you kidding me on that fan?!?! I have never seen anything like it before! Your hellebores are so pretty! As are all of your bright blooms! I can imagine that it must be an adjustment to move to a small country town. But your space is a piece of heaven! Happy week to you! Nicole xo

  10. What a gorgeous chair, your man is a definite keeper! Absolutely everything looks stunning on top of your blanket box. It's the perfect backdrop. Your shiny new cooker is delightful. I'd be tempted to eat out so it stays brand spanking new! xx

  13. I relate to your changes and the adjustments involved Meg, as we too notch up a year living at the resort. I often say "I don't hate it, I don't love it, it is just different". Maybe it is a time thing for us :)
The chair is lovely, by the way.
