Saturday Thrifting

Thank you  all for the kind thoughts at the loss of my Dad, it was much appreciated.

Yesterday was a big shopping day and I managed to fit in a couple of thrift shops to explore

A new Savers opened in the city and I found this 1930's mirror with piecrust bevelled edge for $7.
I'm going to try and find a couple more in different shapes and put them on my bathroom wall

It's been ages since I visited the op shops in the  little country town of Lobethal (which has the largest display of Christmas lights in the Southern Hemisphere) In the CFS Shop I picked up a and some Christmas decorations for 50c

And in Hosanna's  a pretty tablecloth and an adorable and really ancient faded paper flower wreath..I have 4 now so I guess that makes a collection

We bought a massive load of fairy lights to cover the eaves and trees in the garden and they should be all up by tonight
This tree is going to have a net of twinkling  fairy lights on it

We dropped off our 2 roosters to the new owner yesterday (sob) and our 4 girls spent their first night together without them. We have found it's a lot harder to be impartial when you hatch your own . It's like giving your children away

The veg garden is fantastic but we have had to net it all as we have so many parrots.

Slowly the Christmas decorations are going up in the house

It's been 3 years since we could put up our pretty Christmas tree and decorate it as my naughty Russian Blue ,Sascha, runs up the trunk and I'm still contemplating giving it another go!!!

Sunbathing in the sunlight patches in the sitting room...looking totally innocent

  1. Between toddlers and the cat and the puppy there were a few years where we had little trees high up on tables. It looks like you have some beautiful sparkly plans. Love the first shot with the chandelier reflected.

  6. Love the pie crust mirror and the folded paper wreath -I collect the ones with roses. If I slowly decorate, the two dogs and two cats do not seem to notice and leave all the decorations alone. Funny, I have never dreamed of parrots invading the garden :>)

  11. That mirror is gorgeous! What a find. Love your Christmas decor so far! Our cat has never taken an interest in the tree other than batting at low hanging ornaments, thank goodness. Have a very merry Christmas!

  13. Can your be naughtier than my Jack Russell terrier who ate a Christmas ornament when she was about 8 months old? Sounds like it! Ha! I discovered your blog from a link party (sorry but I don't remember which one)! Sorry to hear about your daddy. Mine died many years ago, and I still think of him. Mourn him. But the grief lessens over time. At least it did for me. I feel your pain about your chickens, too. I love all animals, and I know I would feel the same way about my chickens if I had them!

  16. As I was reading your blog, I was trying to figure out where you were from. You used the words "fairy light" and "veg," so I immediately thought England (we lived there for two years). Then I checked and saw you're from Australia--I have cousins in Balina! Anyway, I love, love, love the mirror you found for just $7. It's gorgeous; I adore the unusual shape. Hope you'll come visit me sometime at Adirondack Girl @ Heart, dpetrillo.blogspot.com

  18. Hello Meg, I am so happy to visit here today. I love your home and the holiday decor. I am still working on my trees and a few other things. In the old days when I had a real tree, I would put it up no more than 10 days before Christmas. Now I do it when I have time now. It was great to visit today, I have signed up as a follower. I am looking forward to visiting again.

  20. Meg, I found your blog through a Pinterest pin and I amazed that I don't follow you already. We follow a lot of the same people. Your mirror is beautiful. I never knew that was called pie crust, but it is a fitting name! Love it!

  22. It's all looking so lovely, Meg:) That wreath is gorgeous. Did you make it? I know how you feel re: the roosters. We had to give 2 of ours away when we discovered that 2 out of the 3 pullets we'd bought were of course roosters. We found great homes for them though so that was great. Chickens are cool aren't they? xox
