The Thrifty and the NOT so Thrifty

This is a little sneak peek at the big ticket  purchase we made from a beautiful shop in the Adelaide Hills. Its being delivered next week and I can't wait. This pic was taken in the shop

It's a French oak dining table with 6 cross back chairs. We saw this in the shop months ago before their sale and fell in love but could only dream of replacing our scratched and brown dining set. Then we saw them on sale....nope...still can't afford. My stepmother came to visit last week ( my darling Dad passed away just before Christmas with a long battle with cancer) with a few things Dad wanted me to have, as well the opportunity to buy something for the house as a  post Christmas present
I will always think of Dad when we use the table
I'll take some more pics when they arrive !!!

Another not so thrifty find.....I happened to come across the little sister mercury bottle of my favourite dressing table collection

And in the same shopping area a gorgeous florist shop absolutely filled with David Austin roses

I kept moving them around the house to enjoy them and now they are hanging in the pantry drying

I found a couple of antique books at the Salvos a couple of weeks ago for my collection

The large book was a prize given in 1918 at the end of WWI

In the garden this week

The large egg laid last week turned out to be a double yolker and this week an even larger egg

The beans are flourishing in the cooler autumn days

......and the leaves are turning to beautiful autumnal colours

Misty autumn mornings

Soft morning light

Sunny afternoons

My favourite rose Asma Sharif is starting to open again

Gardenalia

We rushed through a Farmer's Market on the way to lunch and I noticed some  old  rusty tools and gardening stuff . I picked up this 1950's mower for $10 and I LOVE, LOVE it ...the colour is a gorgeous blue

The elderly farmer selling it thought I was a bit weird I think !

I also picked up a vintage yardstick with advertising on it...I love old rulers!

The lovely Emma Kate asked me to post some pics of my bedroom which is really hard to take a complete shot, so this collage is from all angles ..just for you Em!

In the garden this week

I planted out some dwarf  sweet pea seedlings on St  Patrick's Day which traditionally supposed to be the best day to plant them and  climbing seeds along the chicken coop, and some Johnny Jump Ups

Still waiting for the apples to ripen...all the other fruits are finished

Pumpkins are taking over!

We had our first large egg this week

A Holiday Monday Trip

We decided to do a day trip around the countryside on the holiday Monday. I found one of those country antique shops in the sleepy town of Kapunda, choc a block full of stuff. I spied this tiny 1930's globe made in Tokyo...love the faded patina. I'm a fanatical globe collector and I beat the owner down on price

On to visiting rival garden nurseries...which means gift shops too ...YAY...I found a pretty large ceramic ball and a mercury bottle for my bedroom collection ...both for $11

Just for the lovely Zara and Connie who have requested I take pics of my bridal headpiece collection together!!

Starting to pick  a few more flowers in the garden

The massive job of cutting out the huge juniper bush is finished and it takes up the almost the whole bottom of the yard. We can bonfire it in May. The big job of pruning the orchard trees has begun as the previous owners espaliered them and then didn't prune them. Only apples left to harvest in April

The pile of cut
branches extends from the left of the picture to the middle. The patches of white you can see behind our Prunus trees is  thousands of netted apple trees over our back fence
