This Week's Treasure Hunting

What a difference a mild week makes...shopping has been a breeze ! (pun intended)

I bought home this little sweetie...an antique leather collar box in lovely condition, I did give one to my husband as a gift a few years ago,so this one is all mine

I know I promised him no more luggage but this is not really luggage is it??

A sweet little vintage headpiece for my still growing collection

We are planning our Autumn planting and changes to the garden ...one of the perks of being married to a horticulturist is being able to go to a fabulous wholesale nursery with prices rock bottom
I also picked up this pail which I'm going to use for magazines

We came home with Russian sage ,lavenders, pink sedums. and tons of fertilizers

All the hills  around us are greening up slowly

The best news this week is  we had our first egg...it seems like only yesterday we hatched them in the incubator

The first egg was on the ground but the second was in the nesting box

I'm still picking a few roses  and drying a few

Sascha has become quite jealous of the girls !

This Weeks Finds

Happy shopping the past week even with extreme heat again....I found another vintage mirror, a little later than the 2 1930's pie crust mirrors I found in the last couple of months. It cost $10

It has a lovely old hanging chain and it's original sticker dated 1955

I posted the others a while ago .....and all 3 cost me no more than $20
They are going up on the bathroom wall

I also found a cute little 1950's mini  French perfume bottle

In the garden this week the fruit is ripening really fast....a glut of nectarines and tomatoes and the plums just keep coming

My girls are almost 20 weeks now so Mr VL got to work in the shed and put together a nesting box which we can slot in the side of the coop...stayed tuned for the first egg!

Cleaning up the fallen fruit

Salvias are not on their diet!

The Silver Birches in the front yard are slowing dying and will have to be cut down in Autumn and that darn Pierre Ronsard rose in the pot is going to be planted over an arch

Found under the pine trees

How cute is the blue cotton in the nest

Picking the last of the white roses in the garden

It's that time of the year again...a new orchid

A Bit Girlie

As I have said before sometimes the week that was runs in a theme...this week it's a bit girlie or maybe my inner shabby chic demons escaped ( I try and keep a rein on them)
These 2 pretties were picked up for the grand total of $7

a useful bucket for   throwing away makeup tissues in the en suite bathroom

a not so useful pretty bottle

Tucked away in a box in a small antique shop a very old and faded roses tapestry rug which has no backing so I will have to work out what to do with it but ohhh it's purty !!!!

The relentless record breaking heat rolls on . It was 43 again yesterday with high winds...how we have any garden left is a miracle. Yesterday morning we had to be ready to pack a few things for evacuation as there was a fire in the vineyard just outside our town . It was frightening to see the water bombing planes flying over our house. We were lucky... it was put out this time before it spread

The hills from my front verandah......tinder dry

I picked these darling survivors at dawn that morning...how they even flower is a miracle

I used some of the roses that I dried to decorate my 1950's hatbox I bought last year

Can you believe this hydrangea has survived 5 weeks of heat inside in a vase!!

On one of the cooler days last week I made plum jam

Picked heaps of tomatoes ( we covered with sheets so they didn't cook on the bush)

In the next few weeks the nectarines and pears and cucumbers will be ready

What I'm reading this week
