A couple of months ago I shared my excitement at finding books randomly from a shop from the library of a historic homestead we had only just visited the week before! here
I haven't been able to go back to the shop until this week and I was thrilled to find the last two books still in a corner
My fave is the Sir Walter Scott ,and like the others I bought it, came out from England with the family. It has beautiful leather tooling and remnants of gilt on it's spine
The other book would have been bought here contemporary with the " Anlaby Station"
I found lots of bits and pieces inside the book
I found this small mannequin which is covered in a layer of lace

ReplyDeleteYour book finds are wonderful. The bindings are so pretty and beautifully made. We like to use old books as plinths for small objects which gives them height. We could definitely place your finds!
And, how wonderful to have all the little bits and pieces inside your books. That is always an excitement and one cannot help but to imagine the life of the previous owner......

I love your old books and so interesting to find written pieces within the book. Your garden is still so high summer despite the ravaged forest on the background. I am definitely longing to summer, it's wet, white and cold here.
ReplyDeleteI love old books. "They" haven't made them like that in probably over a century. Now look what we have - computers and Kindles! Nothing beats a beefy tome, though! I love seeing your landscape and the plums and nectarine ripening. It's refreshing, because I look out to see the crispy-leafed trees and brown grass. Luckily, the sun is shining brightly, and the temperature is much warmer than what it was over night. Soon, spring will start to show her flowers again. I especially love the cat and your chickens. Hi, girls!
ReplyDeleteYou found some real treasures - lovely bindings and so fun to find the bits inside! The gardens are lovely, too - so green and lush. Miss chicken looks happy and so does Miss Kitty. So sad about the forest....we have large wildfires here, too, in the Pacific Northwest. Hope your weekend is happy. xo Karen
