Summertime in the Hills

I must admit to feeling a little flat this Christmas after losing Dad a couple of weeks ago so this year will be a little quieter in our new house
Love this little find.....very old mercury Christmas balls, marked made in Occupied Japan...and I love the patina
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
I found this  1960's fan in a country town shop on Friday...love the colour
 
 
 
 
Lots of lights went up in the garden... thank heaven for solar battery packs
 
 
 
 

 
 
Our fruit orchard is loaded with ripening fruit and we have had to net the trees from the flocks of cockatoos

Nashi Pears
 
 
Tomatoes
 
 
 
Lettuces and Beans
 

We were given 15 pots of pink and blue Salvias which we dotted around the garden...all free at $15 a pot !!
 
 
 
Outside the back door ....smelling very perfumed...the first of the Gardenias in flower

some days have been very hot and spoiling the English roses so I pick them and let them dry naturally in a vase

    I remember the first Christmas after my dad passed away. Sigh.... You really have some fabulous lights and oh those flowers! I can actually smell them. Love vintage ornaments. They have that great wabi sabi appeal. But then they would since they were made in Japan.

    Oh, they're all so beautiful! and I love the old Christmas tree ornaments! Wish we had gardenias blooming. Maybe they're under the foot of snow. lol

    The first Christmas without a lost loved one is always hard, and all the more for you as it's so recent. A quiet Christmas sounds a perfect way to process your feelings.

    It's such a hard time with out your dad, it's still hard for us each year with out my lovely dad. Your garden always amazes me.

    We lost our dad almost four years ago and holidays aren't the same. It gets easier but never better.

    Those ornaments are stunning. I have lots of vintage bulbs but none marked Occupied Japan. What a great find!

    I am so sorry you lost your dad. We lost my husband's mom this summer, and I miss her cheery laugh.

    On a brighter note, I love your fan and your Christmas balls. Great colors!

    Are you in Australia? I think it is summer there, is it not? I am in Florida, and it is downright chilly. We are normally warmer right now.

    I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I remember the year after my mother passed I found an old Christmas card that she had sent out the year before. It said, " with you in spirit, love mom. So I always remember that. I can't see the loved ones who are missing but I know they are with me. May you too find comfort in that. Hugs Becky

    I am so,, so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. Losing a parent really, really sucks. I hope you can still find some joy this Chirstmas, Meg. Such a hard time to lose someone too.

    Sorry about your dad. It's been three Christmas's without my mom AND dad. I lost them within 6 months of each other. It's still hard.
