A Day at the Fair

Actually it was a 2 day Antiques Fair in our tiny town...my first since moving here last year
It's held over my fence which was all very handy but not great for my purse.
My first purchase on the first day was a remnant of a  Victorian tea gown...I'm a sucker for rescuing antique fabric

It's quite hard to describe and even photograph but it is  the bottom half  of a dress with a silk organza swag all the way round , floaty rose printed organza and lace which has all turned ivory with age
It came in a large old cardboard box and when I took it out underneath was a unfinished satin gown

On the second day I made a cheeky offer on 2 silver topped perfume bottles which was accepted

Finding Fabulous

A visit to the charity shop and I found a gorgeous 1950's headpiece for my collection.

This set of books were from a free box outside a Lion's club shed

A little French book from the salvage shop

We found a little country antique shop with a rummage room. I bought 6 of these crystal glasses from a water set for $10. The owner had a beautiful and expensive set with water jug and 12 glasses and she separated these 6 because she said they were cloudy !!! I can't see it myself
In the garden this week

The trees are pretty much bare now , the roses finished and our veg garden has had 4 bags of pig manure ( bought from a nearby farm) dug over and ready for planting. Hundreds of daffodil bulbs peaking up

Autumn mist at dawn from the front porch

Sunny by lunchtime view from the porch

A foggy morning from the back porch

The orchard over the back fence

This Week's Finds

Our small town has a tiny church charity shop which is only open a few hours over 2 days a week
I found  a couple of treasures this week

a double strand of mid century pearls for my costume jewellery collection for $9

I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted a stack of 4 antique bowls for $2 each
They are James Kent  " La Rosa" and we had only been looking at a James Kent display in an antique shop the week before and now sit with my collection of roses china

It is a very small shop ...a crowd is more than one person!

It's a brisk walk uphill and past the town park

The autumn weather is gorgeous at the moment and the garden is slowly losing its flowers and leaves

First frost

Left over bread and butter pudding

One of the last roses destined to be dried

A New Discovery

This is one of my favourite finds for this year so far

a small iron with brass knobs cot end

I discovered a great salvage shop tucked away in a country town called Warehouse @ Woodside. They clear out local farms and sell for great prices....it was like being a kid in a candy store for me!

I also found this silver box with eau de nil satin lining perfect for holding my watch

Mr VL also found a treasure...an old watering can

Absolutely crammed full of goodies...itching to go back

This week in the garden

We  were finally able to have a huge bonfire of all the bushes and branches we removed this year in our gradual landscaping plans

Rain clouds
